A Shropshire firm has successfully made the recording of company business miles "100 per cent accurate" with the supply of mileage capture devices.
Company accountants are seeing the benefit with the "imperfect" process of recording mileage on paper "gone forever."
Gone are the days of company car and van drivers being hounded to fill in their mileage forms. While accounts departments need no longer worry about the accuracy of the information they receive, said Simon Harris, of FleetConsult UK, of Grosvenor House, Telford.
"We now have 100 per cent accurate recording of all our vehicles business miles. We now know that the information we have to give to the Her Majesty's Revenue & Customs is absolutely correct," said Mr Hartshorne, whose company Heat Transfer Systems has a fleet of six vehicles fitted with an ACCREDIS mileage capture device.
"In the past we did everything properly but there could be grey areas which I didn't like. So when introduced to the ACCREDIS system it really was a must have."

Business miles are recorded for every trip, stored onto a device which easily fits into company vehicles, and the information is then downloaded onto a computer's spreadsheet - all ready for filling in forms to the Inland Revenue.
The device differentiates between business and private mileage, while protecting the privacy of our employees, making the accounting process so much easier, he said.
Each company driver picks up their ACCREDIS card before a journey and loads it into the device fitted to the vehicle which records mileage for company tax purposes.
"At the end of the week they hand in their cards and we download the information onto spreadsheets on the computer. It couldn't be easier!" said Mr Hartshorne.
Even if a driver is in a hurry or forgets to swipe the machine, the ACCREDIS card reader will still record the mileage for each trip.
